Avery at 5 years old!

Avery is my big 5 year old girl! She is so grown up it’s shocking to me sometimes! She’s in full day kindergarten and LOVES it. Like she hasn’t said one bad thing about it all year. She’s got friends, she gets to color all day long, and she’s really learning a lot. Just in the past couple weeks she’s started trying to write out sentences entirely by herself. She used to make me tell her how to spell things and now she’s trying to figure it out by sounding things out. She’s definitely got a lot of room for improvement but it’s just so fun to see her trying new things!
Her reading is also getting really good. Her sight reading vocabulary is very extensive and she’s getting a little better every day on sounding words out. She’s starting to read short chapter books like Magic Tree House and Junie B. Jones books with help.
One thing we’ve started trying to work on with Avery is the concept of saving up her money. I bought some piggy banks for her and Camryn at the dollar store and have been paying them 10 cents for little jobs around the house. Once Avery had saved up 50 cents she said she wanted to spend it on a temporary tattoo that they were selling at school for a fundraiser. Merrick tried to talk her out of it but she insisted this is what she wanted to spend her money on! So she brings her money to school and when she comes home I ask to see where she put the tattoo. She said she didn’t like it so she had already scratched it off. Ha! Her hard earned 50 cents went down the drain quick. So hopefully she learned her lesson and will try to save her money for more lasting items!!
Avery loves her sisters Camryn and Lily and she is such a helpful big sister. Whenever she’s grumpy I just bring Lily to her and she lights up with a smile. She sure loves having a baby around.
Well I still can’t believe I have a 5 year old but Avery is so beautiful and wonderful and we love having her in our family.
